Documentos: Papers preliminaries y definitivos serán preparados y presentados por los profesionales y académicos participantes, entre ellos, los profesores que intervinieron en los ejercicios previos de las décadas del 70 y 80. Los Papers preliminaries –tendientes a facilitar las discusiones- no deben ser entregados luego del 10 de Abril de 2007, mientras que los papers definitivos, no deben entregarse antes de los 30 días previos a la última Sesión en la ANU, en el primer trimestre de 2008.

Discusiones: Por paneles de tres o cuatro expertos (funcionarios, empresarios, politicos y académicos), quienes intervendrán siguiendo las introducciones de los papers relativos al tema bajo discusión.

Publicación: Un libro –a ser publicado en el segundo semestre de 2008- concluiría todo el proceso. Incluiría los papers presentados y el sumario de discusiones mantenidas en los seminaries.

Financiamiento: En partes iguales por las universidades participantes, las cuales podrán recurrir al esponsoreo de instituciones interesadas o relacionadas con la evolución de las relaciones mutuas entre la Argentina y Australia.

Coordinación: Un coordinador de cada institución participante deberá ser designado lo antes possible. Los coordinadores serán responsables de todas las tareas organizativas relacionadas con el Seminario, incluyendo la identificación de los participantes que prepararán papers, la recepción e impresión de los mismos, la selección de los panelistas, etcétera. Las universidades en cuestión deberán proveer toda la asistencia necesaria para facilitar las tareas de los coordinadores. La principal intención del Seminario “John Fogarty” es la de generar un intercambio de opiniones y facilitar las condiciones para que se geste un feedback productivo.

Este blogspot tiene como objetivos presentar el Seminario, servir como centro unificador de información y proveer información referida a la organización.

Estoy totalmente convencido de que los trabajos de la década del 70 respresentaron un útil ejercicio en aras a identificar las similitudes y las disparidades en la evolución de Australia y la Argentina en los últimos dos siglos. Una nueva iniciativa, que retome y se base en la experiencia previa, puede servir a las instituciones académicas y a los respectivos gobiernos para visualizar la manera en que ambos países evolucionaron en los últimos veinte años y la manera en la que cada uno se prepara para enfrentar los desafíos del futuro. Al mismo tiempo, puede constituir un foro apropiado para proveer sugerencias referidas a políticas gubernamentales para el mediano y largo plazo.

Introductory words by Ambassador Stancanelli

The main intention of the Seminar "John Fogarty" is to provoke an exchange of opinions and to facilitate the conditions for a productive feedback to take place.

This blogspot is intended to present the Seminar, to serve as a unificator center of information and to provide organizational data.

I am fully convinced that the works of the 70’s represented a valuable exercise to identify similarities and disparities in the evolution of Australia and Argentina in the last two centuries. A new endeavour following and building up on the previous experience may help academic institutions and the respective governments to visualise how the two countries have evolved in the last twenty years and the way they are prepared to face the challenges ahead. At the same time it may constitute an appropriate forum to provide for suggestions on governmental policies in the medium and long-term.

Date: 26-27 April 2007 and first quarter 2008.

Venue: The University of Buenos Aires (UBA) and the Australian National University (ANU). The First Session of the Seminar will be helded at the Industrial Union of Argentina -Avenida de Mayo 1147, Buenos Aires, Argentina-.

Duration: Two days in each respective venue.

Assistance: reserved to participants and to invited people.

Invitations: invitations may be arranged by telephone at DINEI [54](011) 4819-7020; by e-mail at nes@mrecic.gov.ar or at fce@mrecic.gov.ar, or as a reply to the present post of the John Fogarty Seminar Blog.


Documents: Preliminary and definitive papers to be prepared and presented by academics and professionals selected for participation, among them, the proffessors who had intervened in the previous exercises of the 70’s and 80´s. Preliminary papers to facilite discussions should be delivered no later than the 10 of April 2007 and the definitive papers 30 days before the last session in the ANU during the first quarter of 2008.

Discussions: By panels of three or four experts (officials, business people, politicians, and academics) who will intervene following the introductions of the papers commenting on them and on the issue under discussion.

Publication: A book to be published on the second semester of 2008 should conclude the process. It would include the papers presented and the summary of the discussions held at the seminars.

Financing: On equal parts by the participating universities, which could apply for the sponsorship of institutions that are interested or connected with the evolution of mutual relations between Argentina and Australia.

Coordination: A coordinator from each of the participating institutions should be appointed as soon as possible. The coordinators would be responsible for all the organizational tasks leading to the Seminar, including the identification of the participants who will prepare papers, the reception and printing of the papers, the selection of the panelists and so forth. The universities involved should provide all the necessary clerical assistance to facilitate the discharge of the coordinator’s duties.
